Personal Note
- The reason we become nurses is to help people. There is no greater privilege than to be a part of helping a patient and family leading up to and beyond a death. It is such an intimate time in a family’s life, and so many opportunities abound for a nurse to educate, support, advocate, and provide compassionate care. Both Palliative Care and Hospice provide an opportunity for holistic assessment, not only of the physical condition of the patient, but the psychosocial, spiritual, bereavement, and personal care needs, as well as collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and community resources to plan how to meet same.
